Having a background originally in Biology (BSc., MSc.), an MBA in marketing and finance, and over 30 years amateur winemaking experience, the transition from professional accountant (CMA) to grape grower/winemaker was natural.
Our daughter Shannon joined us full-time for the 2011 crush as assistant winemaker, helping in all aspects of the vineyard and winery.
We purchased our 7 acre Naramata Bench vineyard in 2000 and got to work right away planting more vines. Our wines are crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the Naramata Bench, and are predominantly single vineyard pressings
In 2006, we built Black Widow Winery and released our first single vineyard wines. Today our production averages 2,800 cases per year. The winery is built into a steep hillside, with 5 levels in total. This allows us to often use gravity for gentle movement of wine during production.
Assisted by our 3 children, other family members, and friends, development of the property and business is an on-going project. We have a low intervention philosophy in wine making that focuses on the strength of the grapes that we use.
